HMRC have confirmed that some organisations have been incorrectly refused support under the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) due to tax arrears. HMRC go on to say that those that have should reapply at the earliest opportunity.
As the Office for National Statistics announced that the JRS is the most popular of the various support schemes offered by the government up to the beginning of May, it has emerged that many companies have had their claims erroneously rejected.
The issue appears to have arisen where the company applying has tax arrears. HMRC have issued guidance for their staff clarifying the position.
