Anyone who, as I did many years ago, has sat in their first parents or governors meeting at their children’s school know that sinking feeling of getting lost in a world of abbreviations and jargon.
The finances of many educational establishments can be equally impenetrable.
Having served as a school governor for over a decade, becoming the chair of my local primary school’s board of governors for the latter part of that time, it was perhaps natural that I would develop a specialism in this sector.
Educational establishments have a unique set of stakeholders. While there are rarely “owners “In the traditional sense, there are the students / parents, senior management, staff and the board or governing body. Add in the fact that many such establishments are fee-paying, have charitable status or are subject to close monitoring by the applicable local authority.
It, therefore, follows that specialist skills and knowledge are essential to provide the support necessary.
I am fortunate to have had over 25 years involved with pre-schools, schools and universities as well as ancillary services in the education sector in both the state and private sectors.
